The Four Pen Pillars

Behind any successful organisation is a clear set of values, and Pen is no different. We have four key values that are reflective of where we are today and where we are going. We believe that if we succeed in doing them, then success will follow.

We call them the four Pen Pillars – differentiation, expertise, added value and being easy to do business with.

They are embedded in our business; across people, product, process and philosophy.  The pillars offer us a way to improve how we operate. By applying the pillars to each area of the business, we can easily identify our strengths and see where we need to improve.

Differentiation

To stand out from the crowd, we need to do something different. We are known for insuring the hard to place, the one-off and even the unheard of. But we also understand the value of creating extraordinary protection as standard, by handling ordinary needs in extraordinary ways.

Expertise

As a virtual insurer, we undertake all the functions you would expect to see in an insurance company except carrying risk. Whether it’s underwriting, pricing, claims handling, governance or compliance – we have the expertise to carry it out.

Added value

We make sure we always add value for our customers - whether brokers, capacity providers or the people we insure. The insurance chain may be complex but the reality is simple - we need to make it worthwhile for everyone we do business with.

The easier we are to do business with, the more people will want to work with us. It’s why we take the time to listen, to understand and take responsibility; remaining on hand until the job is done. We recognise that although the insurance landscape is ever-changing, what people value remains unaltered – support, expertise and good old-fashioned service.
